So yesterday was the massive killing spree that went on at Virginia Tech. It's crazy how there was a double-homicide in the morning and there wasn't much done to prevent the students from going out to class that day, just an email telling them to be cautious. It also makes you wonder what it would be like or if it could happen on your campus. There's really not much one can do to stop it from happening.
One story I came across that stood out talked about how a professor saved students by using his body to barricade the door, essentially giving up his life in order to give ample time for the kids to escape. He was also a Holocaust survivor...
"The e-mails from grateful students arrived soon after Liviu Librescu was shot to death, telling how the Holocaust survivor barricaded the doorway of his Virginia Tech classroom and saved their lives at the cost of his own."
Another account:
"The students in the class dropped to the floor and started overturning desks to hide behind as about a dozen shots rang out, he said...
Then the gunfire started coming closer. Librescu, 77, fearlessly braced himself against the door, holding it shut against the gunman in the hall, while students darted to the windows of the second-floor classroom to escape the slaughter, survivors said. Librescu, an Israeli engineering and math lecturer, survived the Nazi killings."
Wow...
