The Hobbit: 2010 & 2011

Here's the exciting report from yesterday morning:

AP December 18, 2007
NEW YORK — Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to make J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy The Lord of the Rings.

Jackson, who directed the Rings trilogy, will serve as executive producer for The Hobbit. A director for the prequel films has yet to be named.

Relations between Jackson and New Line had soured after Rings, despite a collective worldwide box office gross of nearly $3 billion — an enormous success. The two sides nevertheless were able to reconcile, with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) splitting The Hobbit 50/50, spokesmen for both studios said Tuesday.

"I'm very pleased that we've been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line," Jackson said in a statement. "We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth."

Two Hobbit films are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, similar to how the three Lord of the Rings films were made. Production is set to begin in 2009 with a released planned for 2010, with the sequel scheduled for a 2011 release.

All I can say is "FINALLY!" I've been looking forward to the possibility of The Hobbit being made into a movie ever since the LOTR Trilogy came out (2001-03) & reading the book back then. Back in high school, my friend Jon and I could only dream of this, haha. I loved the book and I just hope the movie(s) doesn't turn out crappy. Expectations are up there....2010 and 2011 will be here in no time, I think.

Wegmans Products featured on "The Office"

For the season premier of "The Office" last Thursday, I've come to found out, through the local paper and various internet sources, that our beloved grocery store, Wegmans, had a few product cameos in "The Office," my favorite TV show :)

http://www.rbj.net/fullarticle.cfm?sdid=69109
"It looks like some of the folks at Dunder Mifflin Inc.’s Scranton, Pa., branch do their shopping at Wegmans Food Markets Inc.
Employees at the fictional paper company on NBC’s “The Office” used Wegmans-brand products during the show’s season premiere Thursday night. Wegmans has a store in Scranton.
The season opened with a close-up of cereal in a bowl. The camera then panned out to reveal the show’s star Steve Carell eating breakfast next to a half-gallon of Wegmans-brand organic milk and a box of Wegmans-brand cereal.
Carell, or Michael Scott—as he is known in the show—points out that his girlfriend made him breakfast, or at least bought the milk, as he turns the milk carton toward him and says, “It’s soy.”
Wegmans spokeswoman Jo Natale said NBC officials have been sending product requests to David Grossi, Wegmans manager at the Scranton location. Natale said Wegmans this week started to tell its employees to keep an eye out for product sightings on the show. According to their count, there were at least four Wegmans products shown last night, including cans of WPOP."

According to the D & C, "Two Dunder Mifflin employees were sipping Wegmans-brand soda in the break room and another box of Wegmans-brand cereal was stashed on the break room refrigerator."

Garage Sale

Every year my neighborhood has its annual garage sale. When I first moved there in 5th grade I was shocked. It was HUGE. Not only is the neighborhood filled with "shoppers" and cars, but the main road adjacent to the neighborhood is jammed packed on both sides, up and down as far as the eye can see. There are even food venders :) It's an enjoyable experience for a Saturday...

Here's a picture I put together showing the traffic up and down the main road, along with the last one looking into the neighborhood entrance.

V-Tech Shootings

So yesterday was the massive killing spree that went on at Virginia Tech. It's crazy how there was a double-homicide in the morning and there wasn't much done to prevent the students from going out to class that day, just an email telling them to be cautious. It also makes you wonder what it would be like or if it could happen on your campus. There's really not much one can do to stop it from happening.

One story I came across that stood out talked about how a professor saved students by using his body to barricade the door, essentially giving up his life in order to give ample time for the kids to escape. He was also a Holocaust survivor...

"The e-mails from grateful students arrived soon after Liviu Librescu was shot to death, telling how the Holocaust survivor barricaded the doorway of his Virginia Tech classroom and saved their lives at the cost of his own."

Another account:
"The students in the class dropped to the floor and started overturning desks to hide behind as about a dozen shots rang out, he said...
Then the gunfire started coming closer. Librescu, 77, fearlessly braced himself against the door, holding it shut against the gunman in the hall, while students darted to the windows of the second-floor classroom to escape the slaughter, survivors said. Librescu, an Israeli engineering and math lecturer, survived the Nazi killings."

Wow...

Evolution of IMDb's Top 250 (over 2 years)

*UPDATE*
Just recently, "The Return of the King" dropped another spot to #6, with "Pulp Fiction" taking it's spot at #5.
